  • Back to it today! 2.6 miles walked, then 1.3 miles run/jogged back home. Finally! Still not really supposed to be running, but I simply can't stand not doing anything any longer. Will be taking it easy. But hooray on getting out in the beautiful sunshine today!

So, this week my HM training is in chaos. I've been to the dr about heart palpitations, tingly/cold extremeties and headaches. I've been told no more running until an ECG has been completed which may take up to 2 weeks or longer. With less than 5 weeks until my HM who knows what's going to happen now

Ice. Ice and more ice. That's been my week. I am not ashamed to admit that I have missed two training runs because I preferred not to break my leg/arm/rib/neck on the ice.

Still, a "nice" 6 miler planned for tomorrow.... should keep me out of trouble for a while.....

Not sure what to say this week. HM training is still going. Getting frustrated with the fundraising though for Make a Wish Foundation. "only" £270 to raise still. Sigh!

39.4 miles (63km) under my belt this January though and I think I'm starting to feel a bit stronger. Not liking the tempo running I have to say, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger apparently. At least, that's what I'm going to keep on telling myself!

Today was my first "tempo" run. Despite lots of googling, reading of various articles and a trying out a pacing calculator, I went out this morning still feeling a bit confused about what exactly a "tempo" run is! The best way I understand it is that you're supposed to run at a pace where you are not able to hold a conversation. Well, for me this is practically every run I do (and the pacing calculator suggested I should actually run slower to achieve a tempo run).

So, I did my own thing, I pushed my pace up a bit and went for it. My usual pace is anything around 11:30 per mile. Today I managed an average of around 10:10 per mile. Whilst it did involve several stops as I tried not to expire from lack of breath, I did actually manage to keep up the pace each time I started back off running again. I'm a little disappointed that Strava didn't log my 5k time as a PB but I get that it wasn't continuous running so I can accept it. I'm still claiming it though! Oh, and negative splits too!!

Ended up doing about 3.6 miles too because I messed up starting Strava properly and lost my first half a mile into nowhere. Made myself do a full 5k so it was recorded properly anyway!

Now at 44km run for the year so far. With a target of 500km for the whole year, I'm feeling quietly confident!

It seems that today is the anniversary of my first ever "run"! Sometimes getting out there can be a huge struggle, sometimes (like today) I hurt all the way and I ask myself why I do it. But then I look at how far I've come in the last 12 months and I remember exactly why I do it!

In 2018 I've run several 5km events plus a 5 mile event and a 10km event and now I'm training for a half marathon. I'm two sizes smaller in clothing, legs are stronger, I can walk up a hill without getting out of breath and my girls know that "Mummy runs" which in turn will hopefully inspire them to keep active and not end up where I was a year or so ago (certainly has helped with Francesca already as she's been out a few times with me). Little things perhaps, but I'm proud of myself! Let's see what the next 12 months can bring!

This year is my second year of running having started the Couch to 5k programme this time 2018.

I've kicked off my 2019 challenges with RED January. Two runs in two days done so far, 7km total. Half Marathon training has commenced for London Landmarks on 24th March. I'm running for Make a Wish Foundation. Next training run is tomorrow with 3 miles Fartlek planned.

Today I have signed up to my next two events for 2019 too. Alton Water Run on 19th May (10k) and Ipswich Twilight 10k on 26th July. More to come! ‏ — feeling great
