After a 0 week last week, I just had to get out there this week. I need to keep pushing on even though I have already reached my target for the year (woo hoo)
I ran an easy 5 miles on Monday, but then have been at the childrens' school every day since for 90mins+ to watch nativities etc. So cant really disappear off from work again for another hour or so of running. so, just the one 5 mile run for the week. I do have a 5k Santa run with my boy next weekend, so hopefully I can get him out for a warm up run this weekend and do a 5k there.

Boom. I did it! headed out with my boy for a run on Saturday and he pushed himself past the 5k mark for the first time and ran 4.5miles with me. finished off his penultimate infinity stone and halfway through his last one to complete the gauntlet. I took a look at my Strava and had 6.2 miles to go to get to the 500 mark, so obviously headed out on Monday morning and did the distance to complete my 500s challenge. 500k and 500mile medals in the bag! headed out for another 5 on Wednesday and looking to do at least 5 again today. No target to aim for anymore as I am now all done, but have to keep motivated and keep going! have a half marathon in March, so want to keep my base level up before I start to train for that in January

improved week. a 3.5mil at 8.05 avg pace on Tuesday, swiftly followed by a 3.54mil at 7.55 pacing on Wednesday. I didn't get out on Thursday, but pushed on a little for a 5.25mile run on Friday at 7.58. that puts me on just over 12 for the week, but more importantly, brings me to 489 for the year. 11 to go until I hit that magic 500! (and claim my ministry of running 500 medal!!) that, is 100% happening next week! Tattoo update booked in for the end of the month too, so hopefully have a much better looking piece of artwork to share in a couple of weeks

    0 week again
I had the day off on Monday to go shopping etc with my wife, so then had a lot to do Tuesday. especially so as I also had Wednesday off work for an all day Tattoo appointment. Similar story on Thursday with loads to do workwise and just no time to get out. Today, arm is a little tender, so wanted to leave it another day or two before I go out running. Hopefully get in a 5k with Kieran over the weekend and can then get back into it next week.
What's that? you want to see my running themed tattoo...?
ok, sure thing! 6hrs in and not finished yet, further details to be added and London eye/ foot only outlined

Contrast to last week, not a whole load of miles, but I managed to get out for 3.3 on Monday and again on Tuesday. Wednesday I pushed it out to a 5.3 then did the exact same route again on Thursday. Trying to decide if I should do the 3 or the 5 for Friday (did want to push it out to a 7 maybe, but was really feeling the four consecutive days in my legs - how do people do run streaks??!!) alas, none of the above. I have Monday off work, so loads to get done and didn’t manage to get out. But after nothing at all last week, I did close out October strongly and finished the month with 61.8 miles (if I had known I was that close to a 2mile per day average I’d have gone to the end of the road and back!!) that actually puts me on exactly 475miles for the year, so just 25 to go until I achieve my target! If only I’d not had the nothing week, I could have pushed it and tried to get over the line with 2 months to spare. Never mind. Pretty confident of finishing before December though!

    Nothing doing this week. literally.
Half term, so kids all home, which makes day time running harder to do and they stay up later, so night time running almost impossible.
poured down all day Monday, wife was ill in bed all day Tuesday and Wednesday, so I was looking after them and working (WFH they said, it is great they said...!) yesterday I was crazily busy and today I just can't be bothered. hope to try and get out over the weekend, then start afresh next week.
oh, I did sign up for the 2000km challenge with MM though. because that shouldn't be too hard right? (what. on Earth. was I thinking?!!!)

bit of a hump week really. nothing really happening. I headed out for a run on Tuesday, just a short 3, but I ended up stretching it out a bit and have discovered a nice little 5 mile route. Wednesday I headed out and did the same run again, coincidentally at the exact same pace! I should have gone further really, but wasn't really feeling it before the run and my legs felt heavy and tired in the first mile, so I wasn't going to push myself on any further than planned. Couldn't get out Thursday at all so planned a 7-10mile for today, but one thing after another cropped up and I just didn't get out at all. Next week is school half term, so although I will get in 10miles with Kieran so he can do his Strength of the Wolf challenge, there will be no long runs at all
Kind of gutting at the timing as I've noted i'm up to 457miles for the year. I wanted to run 500, so with just 43 left, I would have liked to smash some miles in the next two weeks and try to finish before Nov. but that's not going to happen now.

Firstly, I received my London Marathon ballot result magazine on Monday. A no, unfortunately. I didn’t expect to get in (apparently almost half a million applications!!) but I was really hopeful, so I was genuinely gutted. I wanted to run the race to challenge my previous times, obviously. But more than that, I wanted that extra motivator to get me out the door. I have been going regularly, going long and maintained my running mojo despite not having it to aim for, but I think that just because my previous times I didn’t have that opportunity for day time running that I’m now doing, for me, marathon training is hi vis kit, gloves, scarf etc as it’s cold weather and late at night or very early morning. I am posting better numbers with this day time running, but would have no ‘excuse’ to get out at night time without the marathon to aim for. As I say, I’m doing more now, but as it’s different, it seems I’m missing some of it out.

I headed out on Tuesday for my first run in my reject training top (much better than getting yet another jacket!) I intended to run 5 miles as a loosener ahead of a 13 planned for Wednesday, but things went a little awry. I was off in my own little world, as I often am whilst running, and turned down Allenby Road toward home when I had intended to run all the way along to the end of Margate Road and around the old flour mill. I realised as I was around halfway down the road that I had gone the wrong way. By that point, I couldn’t actually be bothered to turn around and go back. Something about literally turning and running away from your house that makes it so much harder!! I managed to loop it a little to round up to 3.5miles

My planned 13 went well and truly out of the window though. I met up with my friend James for a couple of beers on Tuesday night. Ended up getting more than a little jolly and was proper feeling that on Wednesday!! I actually had a banging headache right into the night and struggled to do any work on Wednesday. There was no way I was lacing up and heading out!

Thursday was a busy day with appointments so I cheekily called in sick for work, which I laid the foundations for on Weds as I wasn’t sure I would make it through the day!! Kim and I went for a breakfast then a couple of shops before we had the fun of parent’s evening x5 followed by a secondary school tour for Ethan and Blake.

I was feeling really drained and tired by the end of Thursday, so decided I was going to call in sick again on Friday and just attack next week with a fresh start. I considered heading out for a run if I wasn’t too lethargic. Friday came and I wasn’t really up for it, but decided I was going anyway. I could go longer than normal as the kids were at school and I didn’t have to get back for work. It would be a shame to waste the opportunity. So, I headed out with the plan to follow my usual long route down Chiltern, onto the seafront and back up past the Granville cinema. I wanted to keep going through to Broadstairs and if possible further along the seafront if I could. As I got into King George VI park, I was at around 4-5miles but felt good. No tiredness or struggles so I was def pushing through and around Broadstairs seafront. I didn’t want to run up through the high street though, so was heading past that and into unfamiliar territory. I just kept going using my invisible compass and gut feeling following random roads and surprisingly my pisspoor sense of direction obviously got messed up as I came out in a road I actually anticipated! I followed that round to the Broadway crossroads, then along past the secondary school we had been to the previous night, along to Pysons road and then the familiar run home along Margate Road and looping Westwood cross. I got home to 11.2miles and somehow managed to do so under 9min average pace despite some late struggles (hey, that’s my longest run in a long time!!)

Hopefully I can sneak in a 5k with Kieran over the weekend as he has tailed off again. But my year to date on Strava is now showing as 444miles. So, SO close to that 500! I just want to get out there and smash out a whole bunch of runs and get it done!!

A fairly productive week this week. Hit 3 runs, 7miles Tuesday, 3.2 on Thursday and then ran just under 6 today with an old buddy I’ve not seen for years but found on Strava posting similar times and distances to me (I checked and we have even covered the same distance for the year, I’m at 429miles, he’s on 423. Nice to have a run buddy, but I forgot how hard it is to talk when you’re running! We covered the 5.9 at 8:16 per mile average, but I was chatty and found it tough going because of that!!

I went out for a 5k run on Tuesday morning, just as a loosener ahead of a 7 or 8 mile run planned for Wednesday. When I checked Strava, it showed me as completing 390 miles for the year. So standard my Wednesday run got upgraded to a 10mile! Boom. 400 for the year! And I didn’t actually find it difficult at all. I adjusted my route to take a new section in, enjoyable run, especially with the 400 total as a virtual ‘finishers medal’ 👍👍

After a whole bunch of what I can only describe as naff and disappointing weeks, I have managed to get to the end of this week happy with my efforts! I have run every day this week, logging 5miles at 8.10 per mile average which is pretty fast for me over that kind of distance (generally at about 8.30 after 4miles), a second 1 mile with my wife on Tuesday followed by a 5k with Kieran in the evening to get his next infinity stone for his gauntlet challenge. Wednesday I hit a 7mile that was meant to be an 8-9 but I was struggling so had to bail out a little early. Yesterday I ran just over 3.5miles just to see if I could after Wednesday's difficulties. Kieran wants another 5k today and tomorrow so that he can get his next infinity stone and is determined to finish by September. If he sticks with that determination and we do run tonight and tomorrow, then I will feel obliged to go for even a 1mile run on Sunday to complete a full week of running which in my 9 years of running I have actually never achieved (I have 6 kids, the opportunity to stick with a run streak isn't there as my plans change constantly!) 20.1miles so far. literally just over a Marathon distance for the week if we do those 2 5ks (which if we do, i'll have to make that Sunday run a little longer than 1 to round it up to 30 - be rude not to!!)

Got in a run on Monday, then followed this up with a 1 mile run with my wife Thursday (her first ever run!) which I followed immediately after with a 5k on my own. Not a massive week miles wise, but I’ve been doing school runs every day for their first week back at school, but won’t be doing so next week, so hope to get out and stretch my legs for a couple of longer runs. My run on Monday finished off my 225km run the board and my son submitted his evidence of 20k towards his infinity gauntlet. Both our medals and his first infinity stone arrived this week. Happy Verlanders!

Managed to squeeze in a 6mile run in the heat yesterday and trying my luck for signing up to a half marathon for next weekend, although it’s the last weekend before the kids go back to school, so not overly confident of getting the green light on that one! I like the easy pace of life when the kids are off, but likewise looking forward to having that free time when they are at school to start logging some proper miles again. Seriously dropped off in the past few weeks. Although I have also convinced my wife that running is better than a gym membership (that she hardly makes use of) so she says she is going to come running with me once or twice a week once the kids go back now that my youngest will be at nursery every morning too 👍

Not great still, but managed to get back out there at least. I really enjoy running with my son, but being 8, it kind of limits how far I can go!
This week, I ran to the local cinema to pick up tickets for Angry Birds 2 (pretty good actually, if you haven't seen it!) which I managed to stretch out to 2.5miles. I then headed out again a couple of days later and ran 6miles, somehow managing to hit my normal pacing, despite not running more than 4 miles in over a month and feeling like I was really struggling.
I am hopeful of getting out again for another 2 miles at some point today with my son. not exactly flying feet, but I am eeking my way forwards!

A further unproductive week this week. Just really struggling to get out during these school holidays. Day time is almost impossible, night time is just as hard due to the kids staying up later and me being shattered by then too. really am letting things slip. need to buck my ideas up, to get my Run the Board medal I need to run around 40miles this month. Been out for two 2 mile runs with Kieran this week and hoping to do the same with him again today, but it's not cutting it. need to get myself out there for a longer run. grrr… so frustrating!!

managed to squeeze a single run in this week. only 3.2miles, but despite not running for over 2 weeks, I somehow managed to retain my usual pacing. This was also my first ever run outside of my 30's as I started running in October of 2009 after discovering I had a place in the 2010 London Marathon (I know, most people run THEN apply for a big race, but hey, I like to be different!) I had just turned 30 in that July. fast forward to my run this week and that was 2 weeks after my 40th birthday.
running in your 40's isn't different from running in your 30's. So I reckon I will do some more of it!
better had, I still have ~190miles to go to reach my 500miles for the year and also ~40miles for my run the board challenge which needs to be done by the end of this month

No run again this week. Just haven’t had the chance to get out there. Sounds like a lame excuse, but the only chance I got was Thursday. I was going to hit the coastline for 30mins whilst my car air-con was being re-gassed but on the day, my wife said it’s too hot it will be dangerous to run. I was going to anyway, but she got quite angry with me about my insistence, so I walked the road of the married man and just did as I was told. Good job too, I took a walk whilst waiting and was sweating within minutes. Thursday was a stupidly hot day! That new air con was good on the way home mind you! Onwards and upwards, got some making up to do now!

So, I didn’t post last week, so I thought with the retrospective look on it, if give it a bit more detail. Apologies for the long diatribe, I have actually gone into too much detail, feel free to scroll on by..!
I had a hard fought three miles on Monday, which I had hoped to follow up with a 5 on Tuesday, but the opportunity to get out on the tarmac just wasn't there.
I wanted to get in that 5 as the week represented an end of an era (no, although my 40th birthday on the Sunday I don’t mean my thirties!)
For the past couple of years, Kim has taken Iris to the school toddler group on a Wednesday in term time. Practically every week, with only a few that they have missed. For the last year to 18mths I have used that time to go out for a run wherever possible. As they are gone for around 2hrs, I have made Wednesday mornings my long run time (don't do long run Sunday..!) with the school year finishing the following week, this was the last session of toddler group and Iris won't be going back again as she will start nursery in September. I realise that means she is out for 3hrs every morning, but it isn't a specific day that I have locked in to do that longer run on, so won't be as affective at getting me out of the door.
As this was my last long run Wednesday, I wanted to go a bit longer. I'd love to have done the run I wanted a couple of months back when I ran to my old work and back, clocking 10miles. I wanted to extend that out, running the perimeter of the site to push that out to 12/13miles (at which point I would have detoured a little en route home to make it up to 13.1 - standard!!). Unfortunately I never got around to doing that run, with the week at CubJam, then our holiday, my regular running got interrupted and I scaled back when I got back into it, not really building back up to the bigger distances as yet. BUT, this was my very last toddler group run. I hadn't got out on the Tuesday, hadn't run anything more than 5 or 6 miles for a long time and I wasn't feeling too great either, BUT I was going out and going long(ish) I wanted to run at least 8 if not 10 miles.
I headed down towards the seafront for a coastal trot. I was feeling really rough and was struggling early on, but I had to push on. My headphones started beeping at me too, so I had a feeling this was going to be a hard run! I followed my usual path around the Ramsgate coastline and although when I got to the cinema I really REALLY wanted to turn down my usual road and head home that way, but I wanted to go longer so I pressed on for my originally planned route through King George VI park to Dumpton. As I headed through the park, at around the 4.5mile mark, my headphones died. 😧
I hate running without music and still had over 30mins worth of running to do
I had to keep on keeping on, so I pressed on forward and stuck to my plan. I headed back the same route as my run a couple of weeks back with some double backing on myself to boost the mileage. Although this time I stretched it out more, looping out and around the local shopping centre then home. I actually hit the 10mile mark when I was a few doors away from my house, so it turned out pretty well in the end!

No runs at all this week. Unfortunately life just got in the way. I was busy all day on Monday, had my twins’ 10th birthday Tuesday and then took weds and thurs off work as I had loads to do, so had no time Friday as I was playing catch up at work. So, I’m still yet to post my first run in my 40’s after my Birthday last Sunday. I did run 13 miles the week before, but didn’t post about it as I had a spa day, drinks, dinner out on Friday last week as my birthday treat. I’ll write that up separately now...
But, onwards and upwards. Need to pull my finger out and post some runs. School broken up for summer now, so daytime running is gonna be much harder for me.. wish me luck!!
