How Times Change

If you told a much younger me that one day, I would not only be a regularly active person who hates being stuck inside but also be an ambassador to a virtual race company then I probably wouldn't have believed you.

As a child it's no secret that I wasn't the most active. PE was something that had to be done because I was told to and not enjoyed, I wouldn't be out playing football with my friends and when asked if I wanted to do something I would opt to sit inside and play the Playstation instead.

As I got older not a great deal changed, I was still happier sat in front of the TV than out doing something. Even as an adult I was more active but still not exercising and although I wasn't out of shape physically, I wasn't in shape.

Thankfully as an adult a lot of friends were going to the gym or out running 10k's so I slowly got into my fitness, but cardio was something I would only do every now and then. I even described running as "something you should only do if you're being chased".

However… last year I discovered virtual racing! My first virtual race was done simply because I liked the medal and never intended it to be something I continued but I found it motivated me to be active and keep me going.

This year I have already completed 50k of virtual races with plenty more lined up and I'm signed up to my second full Tough Mudder event and fourth event over all. I'm in better shape than I've been before and I've got new goals for this year to keep me going!

Have you always been into fitness or was it something you discovered by accident?

  • 50K already this year! That's pretty impressive I've heard all about Tough Mudder and know how much my friend has enjoyed it when she's done it, but50K already this year! That's pretty impressive I've heard all about Tough Mudder and know how much my friend has enjoyed it when she's done it, but I'm not sure it's for me. But I know they're not easy so good luck!
I kind of discovered running by accident too. I never thought I'd enjoy it as much as I have!
